Course Description

During the Veteran and Service Dog Beginner Training Class, the veteran works on training their service dog to heel, sit and stand. They also work on 30 second sits and 30 second down stays. 

 

• Week 1: Orientation: Veterans to complete PTSD paperwork, introductions to staff and counselors.
• Week 2: Teach heal and automatic sit.
• Week 3: Review learned commands. Add sit stay and down with stay.
• Week 4: Review learned commands. Add come command. Start asking questions, teach laws.
• Week 5: Review learned commands. Add stand at side.
• Week 6: K9 CPR training.
• Week 7: Review ALL commands and questions, add distractions with commands, i.e., treats on the floor, proof stay commands, etc.
• Week 8: GRADUATION
