How Our Work Is Funded

A transparent look at how K9 Partners for Patriots serves veterans at no cost to them

K9 Partners for Patriots is committed to transparency — especially when it comes to how our work is funded.

Training a service dog team is a life-changing journey for veterans battling PTSD, traumatic brain injury (TBI), and military sexual trauma (MST). It is also a significant investment of time, resources, and support.

To ensure veterans receive this program at no cost to them, we rely on a combination of grant funding and community support.

The Role of Grant Funding

Grant funding plays an important role in helping launch and support our mission. These funds often help offset specific program costs or allow us to expand services to meet growing demand.

However, grant funding is restricted, competitive, and limited in scope. It does not cover the full cost of rescuing, training, and supporting a service dog team through our six-month program — nor does it meet the ongoing needs of every veteran who applies.

Why Donations Still Matter

Private donations bridge the gap between what grants can cover and what it truly takes to serve a veteran well.

Donations help fund:

  • Rescue and evaluation of suitable dogs
  • Professional training and certification
  • Equipment and supplies for service dog teams
  • Mental health support and guidance throughout the program
  • Continued training to ensure long-term success

Without community support, veterans may face longer wait times — or miss out on this life-changing partnership altogether.

The True Cost of a Service Dog Team

It costs over $21,000 to train and support one service dog team from rescue through graduation.

While grants help cover a portion of these costs, private donations make it possible to provide the full program at no cost to the veteran — ensuring access, quality, and long-term success.

Our Supporters Make this Possible

Donors are not an add-on to our mission — they are an essential part of it.

Every gift helps ensure that veterans are met with compassion, consistency, and the support they deserve — not placed on a waiting list due to limited funding.

When you give, you become part of a community committed to restoring independence and saving lives.

If you’ve ever wondered whether your support matters — it does.

Grants help start the work. Community support sustains it.
