Why This Matters

K9 Partners for Patriots is dedicated to upholding the highest standards of honesty and accountability within the service-dog community. Misrepresentation of service dogs — whether intentional or not — harms veterans, misleads the public, and diminishes the trust we work hard to build.

Each K9 Partners for Patriots service-dog team represents courage, discipline, and compassion. Protecting that bond protects the integrity of our mission and the well-being of the veterans we serve.

What We Do and Don't Do

What We Do

  • Rescue and train qualified dogs to become service dogs for veterans with PTSD, TBI, or MST.
  • Provide a structured six-month program led by certified trainers.
  • Maintain lifelong support for our veterans and their service-dog teams.
  • Promote education and advocacy for responsible service-dog ownership.

What We Don't Do

  • We do not evaluate or “personality test” dogs for rescues, shelters, or private individuals.
  • We do not verify or confirm a dog’s participation or graduation status to third parties.
  • We do not transfer or rehome program dogs to the public.
  • We do not authorize use of our name, logo, or credentials without written consent.

Only dogs that have passed our internal temperament test and are actively enrolled in our program—under the direct care of our trainers and veterans—can be considered part of our service dog pipeline.

When A Former Program Dog Is Rehomed

Our service dogs are paired exclusively with the veterans they were trained to assist. On rare occasions, unforeseen circumstances may result in a veteran surrendering or rehoming their dog.

K9 Partners for Patriots cannot confirm or release private information about any veteran or service-dog team. However, if your organization has received or encountered a dog that may have been part of our program, please contact us through the form below and include:

  • The dog’s name or known aliases
  • Microchip number (if available)
  • Photos or identifying information
  • Any surrender or adoption documentation referencing K9 Partners for Patriots

We will review the information internally and take appropriate steps to ensure the dog’s welfare and protect the integrity of our program.

Important: A service-dog’s certification or graduation status does not transfer to any new owner, rescue, or organization. Any public representation of the dog as a “K9 Partners for Patriots graduate” is unauthorized.

Service Dogs Are Not For Sale

A fully trained service dog is not a commodity. Selling or advertising a trained service dog on social media not only violates ethical and legal standards—it puts the safety of the dog, the public, and people with disabilities at risk.

Service Dog Misrepresentation

Aggressive or Uncontrolled Behavior

Genuine Service Dogs Remain Calm and Responsive in Public Spaces.

False Credentials or Online Vests

Documentation alone does not prove service-dog status.

Claims of "K9P4P tested" or "K9P4P certified"

No such certification exists.

Adoption Listings Using Our Name or Logo

Unauthorized and misleading.

If you see a dog promoted under false claims of affiliation with K9 Partners for Patriots, please report it immediately using the form below.

Report Misuse or Misrepresentation

We depend on the community’s vigilance to protect veterans and uphold the integrity of service-dog standards. If you believe a dog is being misrepresented or has been wrongfully identified as part of our program, please complete the form below.

All reports are confidential.

What You Should Know About Service Dogs

Z

Service Dogs Must Be Reliable and Controlled

Even one incident of aggression or loss of control can permanently disqualify a dog from service work.

Z

Misrepresentation Can Be A Crime

Federal and state laws prohibit falsely identifying a pet as a service animal. Violations may lead to fines or other penalties.

Z

Service Dogs Are Not Pets

Each K9 Partners for Patriots dog is individually trained to perform specific tasks that mitigate its veteran’s disability.

Our Commitment to Veterans and the Public

K9 Partners for Patriots stands firmly behind the integrity of every service-dog team that completes our program.

When a dog is falsely claimed as trained or certified by our organization, it undermines the safety of genuine service-dog teams and the credibility of the community we serve. We are dedicated to ongoing education, monitoring, and swift action when misuse occurs — always protecting the trust that our veterans and supporters place in us.
